Week 9 EOC: For those who think young...

forever young... Quoted in an episode of "Mad Men", the season two premiere ..."No one under 25 drinks coffee anymore," says Duck Phillips "Just Pepsi. They pour it on their Frosted Flakes."

"Young people don't know anything -- especially that they're young." -Don Draper

We all may be a victim of adolescent behaviors at one time or another. It may be what keeps us alive, and kicking.

Week 7 EOC: The Pitch

A man wears.

A woman wears.

The woman essentially compliments the man… gifted to compliment you both.

-Kangol

Kangol lead the globe in fashion headwear since 1938. From the village of England to the streets of New York, Kangol has conserved his brim and surfaced to the top. Under the top is where businessmen, senators, athletes, comedians, and armed officials meet unparalleled. On top you will find Kangol. The youth and the wise would catch the breeze and learn to appreciate its brim on hot summer days. The mayor and the mobster are shielded from the brisk air that cuts through the nights created by skyscrapers.

Once upon a time, a gentlemen’s proper dress included his hat. To pay homage was his nature. The hat was found over his heart with regards and respect. Made of materials from straw to wool, his accessory tips over to you in acknowledgement; this is what made him and created him into the man that you adore. It is his style that dictates yours. Mimicking his strong stature, his sophisticated demeanor, and the cut of his cloth, we were able to develop his brim into a style of our own.

As he tips his hat to the lady, she smiles his way.

The woman knows a gentleman when she sees one.

She walks with her arm locked inside of his.

The man is known as the gentleman courting the fair lady.

She gives him grace.

In return he gives her style.

As we rip through the pages of this fashion, wear it now and allow it to be ripped off of you later.

The brim is potent with him inside, and you in grasp.

Week 6 EOC: Copyrighting

Got milk? (California Milk Processor Board)
The " Got milk" ad campaigns asked questions, told stories, and gave a solution at the same time. This was pure genius only to remind its consumers that it is what you needed, when you needed it.
"as long as both line and visual work synergistically and are based on a solid idea." (Chapter 6)

"THE “DO I SOUND LIKE A SALES PITCH?” TEST" (Chapter 6)

"The style of the writing contributes to the message, just as the choice of typeface contributes to the voice." (Chapter 6)

Week 6 BOC: Chim Chim Cheree

I wake up each morning a most happy man,

I cover my Pic-O-Pay toothpaste with Fluoristan additive Crest toothpaste

I add Hexachlorophene additive to toothpaste, detergent maybe shampoo 'cause it's so pure,

And then GL-70, Gleem toothpaste just to make sure.

Then I take a shower, but never alone;

I'm in there with Dermasil medicated dermasil lotion and Silicone.

I brush Vitrol-D Vitriol d'oeillet Eau de Parfum by Serge Lutens

on my Lanolin wave, LANOLIN WAVE hair grease

And I sharpen my Boo-boop a bad razar and use it to shave! (This is a tough one!)

(He sharpens his Boo-boop, and that's how he shaves!)

There's Tufsyn, TUFSYN - Reviews & Brand Information - GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO ...

and Retsyn, additive that absorbs odors in certs and Acrylan fiber additive too,

And Marfac rust protection and Melmac plastic dinner ware and what else is new?

There's Orlon acrylic and Korlan fiber in carpeting, and there's Accutron watch,

And Teflon high heat non stick plastic , and Ban-Lon pull over shirt with , and so on and on.

These wonderful words spin around in my brain;

Each one is a mystery I cannot explain.

Like what does that Blue Magic whitener laundry soap do --

Does it make blue things white, or make white things blue?

(His blue things are white, and his white things are blue!)

This song was apart of one of the most memorable songs to the ad world from the Mary Poppins film. Going to show what a catchy phrase or jingle can do to you throughout your day, they all over time turn into ‘chim chim cheree’. The products being referenced in the song may be ancient history or long forgotten about now, but still very relevant to how we respond to ads today.

With the amount ads we are exposed to a day, its no surprise that songs today are filled with reference to brands and product mention. We now reference people, situations, and objects to brands and understand in many ways and across many cultures what the references are. Chim chim cheree.

Week 5 EOC: That Super Bowl Commercial

The thought process behind this ad was simple and got the job done. The concept was practical of our current society with the video dated back over 10 years ago. We all thrive on having the latest technology and having one up on our neighbor. This was absolutely hilarious. “Creative reasoning behind a solution.”

The solution here was finding a device that could cater to a regular guy that. That guy can be found in the locker room with the fellas comparing their new toys, showing them off. This guy watches TV for leisure, listens to music for entertainment, and checks his e-mails for business matters. Here is one guy that likes to gloat and another that doesn’t like to hear it. How can the other guy win and shut up the initial gloater?? Crime deterrent.

“The concept determines the resulting message: what you say and how you design. Though your concept or idea may be broad, it is foundational. Essentially, the idea drives your design decisions—how you create… The idea sets the framework for all your design decisions.”

This was a great ad that sold men a product to men and not the traditional way- to women for men. Humor and the simple use of the “crime deterrent” gave an impression that the other technologies on the phone were also simple to use. Having the newest phone with the latest technologies may cause problems for you, but if anything occurs don’t fear. Just remember the ‘crime deterrent feature. The decisions from start to finish remained true to the concept of the ad. The dialogue was straight to the point and didn’t take much to get the punch line. The punch line in humor was the deciding point in the ad where men said “Yeah I’m going to get one of those”, or at least “..go check that phone out”. Most importantly what was said is “I can watch the game on my cell phone!” Super Bowl commercial genius.
